About Our Namesake
Jessie I. Spafford, one of the founding member of Rockford Woman’s Club, was a dedicated, driven, astute and intelligent woman who served as the club’s sixth and longest-serving president; Spafford presided for 43 years. She was a Phi Beta Kappa Vassar graduate, bank vice president, the first woman president of the Rockford School District and a Rockford College professor. Jessie loved the club and was one of the major forces behind it. Many of our accomplishments and our mission today are the result of her direction. Jessie would be proud we’re still here and that we continue to make an impact on the community.
Monthly Meetings:
Monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month from noon until 2:00 pm, October through May. Meetings include a social hour, luncheon, program and business meeting.
Monthly Social Events:
Social events include a wide variety of activities from theatre to house walks, from local venues to activities around the greater Chicagoland area. Some are members only, some are couples events. With the wide variety of events planned, there are sure to be activities that appeal to everyone.
Philanthropic Project:
RWC Spafford Department supports NWVU Rockford SheVets, whose mission is to ensure that women veterans have access to their VA benefits with special emphasis on assisting homeless women veterans to ensure they have immediate housing or shelter.

About Our Namesake
One of the founding members of Rockford Woman’s Club, Marie T. Perry served as its first president, serving for five years. It was at her invitation that 20 small women’s club representatives met at her home in February of 1887 to consider merging for greater effectiveness. Within a few days, 13 groups voted to federate and Rockford Woman’s Club was born. An inspiration to all who knew her, she brought to the club her enthusiastic foresight, fine culture and true friendship.
Monthly Meetings:
Luncheon meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month from October through May with a social hour at 11:00 am, lunch at noon and a short business meeting and program following lunch.
Monthly Social Events:
In town or out-of-town, the Marie T. Perry Department finds unique social experiences throughout the year. Luncheons, theme parties, excursions to venues in nearby cities, all fun experiences that draw members closer together.
Philanthropic Project:
RWC Perry Department supports Shirley’s Place, a charitable organization which provides temporary housing for women reclaiming their lives after drug or alcohol addiction or after being in jail.
